Major projects are allocated to a team of Commission members. This project will deliver a second rail river crossing in South East Queensland, allowing more trains to run more often.
This project is allocated to Vice President Asbury and Deputy President Dean.
South East Queensland's population is rising, putting the transport network under pressure.
The current rail network is already nearing capacity and is constrained by a single river crossing and just 4 inner-city stations, causing the bottleneck that limits the ability to run more trains.
The $5.4 billion Cross River Rail project unlocks this bottleneck by delivering a second river crossing, allowing more trains to run more often.
By integrating with roads and bus services the project enables a turn-up-and-go transport system for the whole of South East Queensland.
