Changes are coming for the digital platform gig economy and road transport industry.
Who are regulated workers
Regulated workers are:
- 'employee-like' workers performing digital platform work, and
- regulated road transport contractors.
The law also establishes the sub-category of road transport employee-like worker. See Definition of regulated workers for more information.
New regulated worker functions
The new functions will enable us to to register collective agreements and set minimum standards for regulated workers . We will also be able to help you resolve disputes. Our new functions will start on a date to be proclaimed or from 26 August 2024. Some changes start later.
Under the new functions we can set minimum standards orders and guidelines. This includes employee-like minimum standards orders, Road transport minimum standards orders and contractual chain orders. See Regulated worker minimum standards for more information. We will also be able to help resolve disputes about:
- unfair deactivation from a digital platform (for employee-like workers)
- unfair termination of a contract (for regulated road transport contractors).
See Regulated worker disputes for more information.
