In our inaugural podcast episode, we speak with Claire Grayston, CPA Australia’s Policy Advisor for Audit and Assurance about the role of an auditor and the importance of audit independence. Claire also offers insight into how registered organisations can prepare for an audit, and provides guidance about how to manage the professional relationship.

Guest profile: Claire Grayston, CPA Australia
Claire Grayston FCPA FCA, as Policy Adviser for Audit and Assurance at CPA Australia, is responsible for monitoring, influencing and contributing to public policy, regulation, standard setting and implementation of audit and assurance practice both within Australia and internationally. Claire focusses on both improving audit and assurance quality, through communication, education and resources, and supporting the future relevance and value of audit, through outreach, thought leadership and innovation. Claire works closely with standard setters, regulators, industry bodies, academics, public practitioners, members and other stakeholders to support outcomes of audit and assurance policy and oversight that are in the public interest.
Prior to joining CPA Australia, Claire developed standards and guidance at the Australian Auditing and Assurance Standards Board for over 9 years, including new innovative standards on controls assurance and agreed-upon procedures and guidance for assurance on service organisation controls, emissions and energy schemes and SMSFs. Claire has also worked as an auditor and forensic accountant in firms, regulators and consultancies in both Australia and the UK.
