Content

The Fair Work Commission today unveiled the beta version of its new website for public testing and feedback.

The beta website is the culmination of 18 months of research, design and testing with those who use the Commission’s services, including employees, small businesses and registered organisations. It provides a preview of the direction that the new website will take, including:

  • Content for our 10 of our most frequented topics

  • New look and feel

  • Improved navigation and content

The Commission will use the feedback it receives on the beta website to complete the redevelopment of the website and ensure the final product meets the needs of the community.

Service design and delivery process – Discovery, Alpha, Beta and Live

The Commission has redeveloped its website using the Digital Transformation Agency’s service design and delivery process. The first step was the Discovery stage, which included workshops and interviews with over 50 users and stakeholder groups.

This was followed by extensive usability and information architecture testing with users including employees, small businesses, HR managers, unionists, lawyers and registered organisations.

These processes allowed the Commission to build a clear picture of the pain points and preferences of its users, which were then used to guide the design and content of the new website.

The Commission then conducted a further 14 beta showcase sessions with users and stakeholder groups to collect feedback ahead of the public release.

What’s new

Instead of simply presenting information, the beta website has been structured to focus on the task that a user is trying to do.

Based on user feedback, the Commission has:

  • re-written content in plain language, using less legal jargon

  • developed a modern, streamlined homepage, with the most common issues highlighted

  • included features like ‘tiles’ which give a snap-shot of content and help users find the right information at the right time

  • stepped out key processes, like the steps in an unfair dismissal case

What’s next

The Commission is seeking public feedback on the new website – what works, what doesn’t, and whether information is understandable and easy to find.

Some things are not included in the Beta, like advanced search, decisions, agreements and court listings. These features will be ready for our live stage of the website.
